As we reported earlier, Eurogamer has been told that Sony will be making a loss on every sale they make, which does lend some credence to the figures that analysts are suggesting. Everyone’s best mate, Michael Pachter, believes PSP2 could sell for $250/£200 whilst Lazard Capital Markets’ Colin Sebastian is expecting a price of $299 in the US.
Personally, I think the chances of Sony undercutting the 3DS are very slim indeed but it would be a massive coup if they could manage a £200 price point; the NGP outshines the 3DS on just about every technical level. My guess would be somewhere in the £250-350 bracket, how much are you willing to pay for Sony’s new baby?

I’d wait a year or so to see if it really took off, then get one when the offers start. £200 is the most I’d stretch to, unless (like our beloved black best) it does more than games…

I’m guessing it’s probably going to be more than a 3DS but less then a Ipad, so around the £250-£300 mark-hopefully. However that just me being very optimistic

I’m very surprised Patchter suggested such a low price. If sony could get the NGP out for a 200 pounds (I have to write ‘pounds’ because my symbol doesn’t work, boo.) then I think it’d be a day one purchase from me. I mean it’d be rude not to buy it at that price.

The PSPgo launched for £229 (lowest price) less than 18 months ago.
The NGP is brand new tech and presumably has a much higher manufacturing cost than the pspgo did. Unless they’re gonna start selling at a large loss, it won’t be £200.

As long as they don’t make too much of a loss, it would be an incredibly good idea to undercut the 3DS. Can I see Sony doing it? No.

When I read that I thought Eurogamer actually had something legitimate to ‘report’, turns out it was a “source”… which amounts to three fifths of bugger all in my books.
NGP is ~a year from release, probably more for US and EU, who can _possibly_ know what it will cost to produce at that time? Sure Sony will have some production esitmates and various supply contracts are no doubt already drawn up, but at the moment Sony are still saying they hope to sell if for a profit.
So who do we believe, PR spin or “a source”?
