It looks like Capcom haven’t listened to the cries of the community and have once again applied ridiculous DRM requirements to their latest PSN title. This time, the game is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, a single player experience with no online functionality aside from leaderboards, yet requires you to have logged in to the PSN to start the game.
As you may remember, Final Fight: Double Impact had the same requirement and gamers were understandably furious. While it may seem weird to defend, at least Final Fight had a persistent online mode that somewhat justified the inclusion of the DRM. Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, however, does not.
To Capcom’s credit, they actually do warn gamers this time around and have included a disclaimer in the game’s description – a lesson learned from the Final Fight fiasco. It should be noted that you can sign out of the PSN immediately after booting up the game and resume playing offline. Unfortunately, you’re out of luck if your internet connection fails or if the PSN is down.

Developers obviously feel this is necessary. If the game doesn’t sell well then there is one result. They just don’t make the games again. So therefore the pirates win and ruin it for everyone else. Game over.

DRM like this is almost it’s own kind of crime. The online framework will eventually vanish and we’ll be robbed of the game. This kind of DRM actually makes a pirated/ used hard copy BETTER than the new one for sale… think about that, Capcom!
I learned a lesson with Final Fight on PSN. Not biting again.

This will punish gamers without an internet connection. So let me get this straight a single player game with NO online functions requires you to be logged into PSN just to start it.
Can i just say that idea sounds like a bunch of dog crap. Also what if a major crash happens on PSN? you would be left without a game to play. This will fail.(i hope)

Perhaps people pirating this game will give Capcom less money to put into draconian DRM R&D. I really enjoyed the first Rearmed; this has now gone from buy at launch to not at all.
Bionic Commando – Reamed? I think so.

Nothing new- Warhawk does this for me, even when I play locally, and I think GT: Prologue did as well, but I don’t have that, so can’t know for sure.

Warhawk’s mainly an online game so an online check is understandable there; GT5P had no such online check.
colmshan1990
Fair enough, I heard people say it about the download version, but like I said, I didn’t know…
As for Warhawk, it would be nice if the online check only happened when I actually went online, wouldn’t it?
Pete_UK
Indeed it would, in an ideal world!

Sale lost Crapcom.

Does this also apply to the xbox?

Can see this being bloody annoying (especially if it becomes more common) for people like mynameisblair. Take your PS3 home for the holidays, load it with games, take it back to Uni, games won’t play as you can’t connect to PSN!

I know everybody always laughs at lawsuits aimed at the gaming industry, but we really could use one focused on gamers rights.
