Speaking to Edge at the Skyrim preview event held last week, executive producer of the game Todd Howard revealed that ‘The Creation Kit’ that comes with the PC version of the game could make it to the console versions of the game.
Asked whether consoles would be getting modding tools akin to the PC game, Howard was positive: “It works on all the consoles. As far as the 360 and PS3, right now there’s not an avenue for us to make that available, but we’d very much like to find a way. We have talked to Microsoft and Sony, and so there’s a chance it might happen one day, [but] I don’t see it happening for release.”
Whilst the 360 and Xbox Live have been notoriously locked down when it comes to user-generated content, there’s at least precedent for such a feature on the PS3. On top of console-created content like that in ModNation Racers and LittleBigPlanet, 2007’s Unreal Tournament 3 allowed players to use select mods created by the PC community, and Valve are also planning to bring custom maps to the PS3 version of today’s Portal 2 utilising the Steam service.
“We’d like to see it happen, because it works, it’s how we made the game,” said Howard. “I think it’s something really cool about what we do, but 90 per cent of our audience is on the consoles, so 90 per cent of our audience can’t even see this thing. So if we can solve that we’d like to.”
Skyrim, the latest in the Elder Scrolls series, will release worldwide on PC, PS3 and 360 on November 11th.

Could be beautiful.

Would be cool! There are some pretty good Morrowind and Oblivion mods on PC, I’m sure there’ll be nice ones for Skyrim too.
I’m surprised that 90% of TES players are on consoles, didn’t think the number is that high.

If it happens, the PSN will be certain to recieve. Xbox Live? Almost certain not to, thanks to Microsoft’s policies.

Some really good reputation mods were made for Oblivion,i remember using a third person mod with some animation mods to,that plus that graphics improvements made it an almost different game.
Trouble is i can see Bethesda possibly not wanting tonnes of free content drifting into the console market, most of it in varying states of brokeness, and then theres the porn mods.
