No Split-Screen Co-op in Battlefield 3

Those of you looking forward to sitting down with a friend and playing co-op in Battlefield will be disappointed: DICE have confirmed that there won’t be any split-screen available in the co-op mode, and their statement of “you have to be online to do it” could be taken as a sign of no LAN co-op play either.

The co-op levels themselves will take between 20 and 45 minutes to complete depending on factors such as difficulty and which level you choose.

There will be six levels at launch, which involve ‘random factors’ so they won’t get too repetitive. These levels will be separate from the main campaign and you’ll be able to compare scores and times competitively. It sounds like a good mode, then, just not for those split-screen aficionados.

DICE demonstrated the co-op during Gamescom, a video of which can be found below.

  1. Shame. :-(

  2. If either of these dudes were sat in the same room as me, I’d be sticking a shotgun in THEIR faces!

  3. Looks like MW3 might claw back some ground if they keep split screen for Spec Ops again.

  4. Aww… score one to MW3 I guess as I love playing split-screen co-op.

  5. It’s far harder to co operate with someone when you don’t have a headset :|

    • Depends what the task is really. If it’s simply ‘kill everyone’, then a headset isn’t really necessary!

  6. How is anyone surprised by this? Did they originally say it was going to be added?

  7. I’m more a fan of split-screen competitive than co-op, but it’s still a disappointment.

  8. Personally not too fussed about lack of split screen co-op. I agree with others, I prefer to have a full screen to myself.

  9. This gameplay footage just demonstrates how great it would be to play with a friend right by your side instead of sitting in a dark room while it seems like you are talking to yourself the whole time…

  10. not bothered and still don’t need MW as Starhawk will satisfy split screen needs – eventually!
