This evening Apple confirmed that the visionary man behind the company has passed away. I don’t normally do sentiment, I’m normally too wrapped up in my own concerns and worries to really spend time on others, but something hit me when I heard the news.
I’ve used a Mac since leaving school, introduced to one at my first design agency, but remember an old colleague running a Mac emulator through an Amiga years before that, in black and white. That’s how important they were back then, and that notion hasn’t changed a bit – I still use one for my job today.
Now, of course, the legacy that Steve Jobs leaves behind stretches much further than anyone but him ever imagined. He made computing accessible, friendly, intuitive, and he brought the world the iPod, quite probably one of man’s greatest ever feats of engineering and design.
And – as the figures clearly show – he changed the shape of mobile gaming forever with the iPhone.
There’s a strange, empty feeling inside me. I didn’t know the man personally, but I’ve used his ideas, projections and – yes – products for most of my adult life. Some scoff at Apple, the brand, the devices, but they’ve only ever had a positive impact on my life.
If that was Jobs’ only desire, as with everything else he did, he succeeded.

I very nice article. I was also shocked this morning, thinking he was still doing his job not that long ago is crazy. Its a real shame.

I would also like to say, that photo is amazing too. Being a photographer myself this really captures his essence.

RIP, I’ve always looked up to Steve and his products are simply the best. He helped to revolutionise consumer tech and made tech ‘sexy’.

Very sad news. On another note, and as a photographer, I really like the portrait of him, hugely successful image. Makes me wonder and worry slightly where apple will be heading in the future now mr Jobs is gone :/

I fear Apple may go downhill from this. iPhone 4S wasn’t received well and without Jobs looking over the company I wonder how products will turn out.

There’s no doubt Steve had a huge influence on the company but like all great visionaries, his legacy will live on through the momentum he created. Regarding the 4S – I think people automatically assumed that the new iPhone would be a lot different (me included) and I was initially disappointed but looking at the new features, it’s a worthy upgrade. The past shows that every Apple iteration is not a giant leap, it usually has a 2 generation cycle e.g. the 3G to the 3GS and then the big leap to 4

R.I.P Steve, I will be getting an iPhone soon, and to know he was a big part of these kinds of products, and the way in which they functioned is really amazing
