Netflix has officially launched in the UK and Ireland this morning, offering a streaming service for £5.99 a month. The service, which has laughingly beaten PlayStation’s own video service to Ireland, is hugely popular in the United States (with 20 million members globally).
“We are starting 2012 in the best possible way: by giving consumers in the UK and Ireland an amazing entertainment experience,” said CEO Reed Hastings. “Now, you can enjoy as many great films and TV programmes as you want, when you want, where you want, for one low monthly price with no contracts or commitments.”
Netflix promise an easy unsubscribe option, and includes material from the BBC, Lionsgate UK and MGM. There’s an option to use Netflix from your PS3.

Don’t think I’ll bother with this. I never get round to using my free download time I have with my Lovefilm subscription as it is.

Lovefilm have now dropped their price to £4.99.

I was interested in this idea, I thought “ooh, some good films on PS3, I’ve seen all the good ones on Lovefilm”. Then I read everyone’s comments on here and alas, I will not be signing up.

Does anyone know if you can pause the stream and return later to watch the program? I have 2mb download max and there would be no way I could stream an HD movie. It would display at 1 frame per second!
sully1311
yes you can

Hmm, I’d prefer if they’d offer a trial before I go subscribe and watch a handful of films.

30 day free trial, available to cancel onine

Shame about the current movie selection as I was looking forward to this. Looks like neither LoveFilm or Netflix for me then.

I love it – Arrested Development which I’ve always wanted to watch, Mythbusters, Doctor Who, lots of great TV on there and some equally good movies that I’ve heard about but yet to see: Primer, Revolver, etc.
Free trial just now but may keep this if it impresses.

You’re in for a treat with Arrested Development, finest comedy to come from america for years imo. :)
colmshan1990
Arrested Development beats Father Ted and Fawlty Towers for greatest comedy on TV ever, probably greatest show as well!

I was only interested in the free trial but it’s credit card only … foiled again :/

Still waiting for Sony’s PSN Video Store- they stated in the blog and other official announcements that it was coming to Ireland at the same time as UK…
Joke.
I’ll give Netflix a look at the weekend, I think.
