Baldur’s Gate Returns

It appears the rather excellent dungeon crawler ‘Baldur’s Gate’ is to rise from the grave.

A teaser site with the original logo and music has appeared and development team Beamdog are working on the game.

The franchise was originally developed by BioWare and conveniently Beamdog is headed by former BioWare designer Trent Oster who said there will be an announcement ‘very soon.’

The source code for the teaser site contains the following message:

Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine

For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory.

And then… it returned. Better than it was before.

Pore over the tapestries and works of art hanging from our walls if you wish, Child of Bhaal… perhaps you will find a clue. But patience, ah… patience would reveal it all.

As the silver moon waxes and wanes, so too does life.

The original title was developed on the Infinity engine, so ‘raise dead’ and ‘it returned, better than before’ seems to indicate a remake or revamped version of the first game.

  1. YES!!!

Sorry, loved the original and lost too many hours to the series to count. Seriously can’t wait to see what’s coming :D

  2. Excuse my ignorance but I have never played this….how good is it?

    • Excellent imho :)

Ok, its dated now (original came out mid-90’s) and I’m probably biased by memories of playing it but it is/was excellent. Proper epic storyline, especially if you play through from the first game to the last game, good character choices in the second game and npc interactions with each other and the pc which I don’t think anyone had really done before.

Need to see if its a re-release / re-make / whole new game in the series!

  3. Yeah baby! I loved these games!!!!!!

  4. Always wanted to play this so sounds good. I’ve never heard of beamdog though so I hope they’re up to it.

  5. Must. Have. This!! The Dark Alliance games on PS2 were outstanding. Absolutely must release them again, and continue the story. I hope they deliver!
