NeoGeo Handheld Confirmed For Q2, Might Be a Bit Pricey

So that NeoGeo handheld device we mentioned back in January has actually been given a release window of Q2 2012. MCV are reporting that Blaze will be teaming up with SNK Playmore and US distributor Tommo to bring the NeoGeo X handheld to market.

It comes with the following games built in:

  • Art of Fighting
  • Baseball Stars
  • Cyber Lip
  • Fatal Fury
  • Fatal Fury Special
  • Football Frenzy
  • King of the Monsters
  • Last Resort
  • League Bowling
  • Magician Lord
  • Metal Slug
  • Mutation Slug
  • Mutation Nation
  • Nam 1975
  • Samurai Shodown
  • Sengoku
  • Super Sidekicks
  • The King of Fighters ‘94
  • The Ultimate 11
  • Top Players Golf
  • World Heroes

Now, here’s where things get a bit tricky. Apparently the console will have a limited run, and prices may reach up to £500. Don’t get me wrong, it looks nice and everything, but that sort of price can almost get you a Vita, PS3 AND Xbox 360.

  1. People will be willing to pay that due to nostalgia :/

    • Will they really?? I would think that people who are that keen would buy the origional console and games for nostalgia, rather than a modern handheld version.

      • Good point, but there’s a lot of collectors out there who will.

    • I could be motivated by nostalgia if this thing had a complete (or near-complete) set of games, native internals, proper controls and a 4:3 screen. Seriously! A 16:9 screen for a dedicated 16-bit handheld? Truly pathetic.

    • I am guessing you are kidding (what with the winking smiley & all!), but just in case anyone is in any doubt, you definitely won’t need a second analogue stick for neo geo games.

  5. Wow, was seriously considering one of these, but at £500 that’s too rich for my blood. For that sort of cash, you get get an AES console and a good number of the games for a truly old-school experience, the majority seem to at the cheaper end of the AES cart scale (Ultimate 11 being the notable exception).

    • And obviously Metal Slug as that can go for £500+ on it’s own :-/

  6. That’s just madness. I can understand the high prices for the originals, but a new console with decade(s) old games?

  7. Look how much Sega’s portable device is (even if it might not be offical)… ridculous should be worth £30 regardless of history and besides you can just buy a Wii, PS3 and PSP (Might work on Vita) and THEN.. you purchase Neo Geo games for like 700 points or £5-7.

  8. Haha now that is OVERPRICED. Can aready play alot of does games on the psp or ps3.

  9. There are enough chinese emulator handhelds out there for less money that play these games just fine and probably every other console game of that era.

  10. and they say the ps vita is expensive lol. Only if I had money I would add this to my handhelds & console collection. I will wait for ebay
