Sony are pretty serious about this February 20th reveal, and their marketing efforts are certainly stepping up as the event looms quickly – it’s now just a matter of days before New York hosts the big event. The video above, released this evening, is the first in a series called “Evolution of PlayStation” and showcases the early years of the brand.
“PlayStation’s arrival to the world of gaming signaled a change in the status quo and a sign of things to come. The original PlayStation system emerged in 1994 in Japan as a dark horse challenger, a seemingly outgunned newcomer entering a crowded field dominated by legends of the 16-bit era,” said Sony’s Sid Shuman on the PlayStation Blog.
“Accompanied by a powerful salvo of titles including WipEout, Crash Bandicoot, and Gran Turismo, PlayStation’s rapid rise marked the end of one era of videogames and the dawn of another. The world was never the same.” Those are strong words, Sid. Let’s hope the PlayStation 4 lives up to this massive amount of hype the platform holder is currently building.

This is exactly what Sony need to do. Get in first, hard and fast before Microsoft, but they also need to push through and get their console out first at a decent price point, be ready to match the next Xbox price when it is released, and have a good line up of decent games that can be bundled with the console or price dropped with the Xbox release
