When we learned of a new PlayStation Vita model, we all thought it would be a good thing. Different colours, lighter, thinner, better – right? Well, it doesn’t seem quite as good after seeing the below OLED vs. LCD comparison image. The current model is on top, while the new model is below.

There’s definitely a better colour palette with the OLED and they look more vibrant and richer, with deeper blacks and less of a green tint found with the LCD screen.
As ever, I’d say wait for more of an official (or see to see it with your own eyes) comparison. It might not even be that bad, with a further image, which you can see below, showing less of a difference. Personally, I think it’s just the lighting in the first picture that could cause concern.

I’m interested in giving the new one a whirl, as my current vita seems to be making me feel dizzy/sick when I use it…and I honestly can’t work out why.

the LCD looks a little washed out compared to the OLED in the first pic.
harder to tell with the second one, what with the reflection and the finger smudges.
but the LCD does look a little lighter, though slightly less washed out than the other pic.
still, i’d assume it’s a quality screen even if it’s slightly below the quality of the original’s OLED screen.

Been a hand held gamer on/off for many years now, so used to all manner of screens:
The original GB i could never get a playable image off the screen, no matter how much i fiddled with settings, the GBA was woefully in need of a backlight (given these 2), loved the GB Micro screen, the Sega Game gear screen suffered chronic screen blur, the Atari Lynx screen was too low res for my liking, was lucky to own a Phat model PSP with out screeen blur and my 3000 model has interlacing issues.
Both LCD+OLED Vita screens look pretty smart to me, pro’s and con’s to both as you’d expect, you pays your money, takes your choice.
1 thing i would ask:dead pixels-still an issue with Vita screens or has that been ‘put to bed’ in newer screen tech?.

The light shining on both consoles shows that they are at different angles which makes comparing how good they look a bit more difficult. They both need laying down on a flat even surface and photographed at the same angle and distance.

Damn that looks uglier, why do Sony’s redesigns always look uglier? Especially the screen, looks like the rest of the Vita is just bolted on to it!

I wonder if the money saved not using OLED screens gas gone towards paying for their new HQ in Silicon Valley?

Jesus, what kind of frickin giant can hold two Vita’s in one shovel! :P
I actually think that the LCD display looks very acceptable with hardly any graphical quality loss, a price well worth paying which could be a great strategy for Sony to put the best the little console well within the grasp of thousands more sweaty palms!
