When LucasArts wrapped all their development up and were sold off to Disney, we apparently lost this third person Star Wars adventure. Now, a mysterious unnamed source has spoken to IGN about the project, and apparently shown them 15 minutes of video (that they aren’t showing yet).
The game was, as widely expected, set to star a young Boba Fett as he traipses around the seedy underbelly of city-planet, Coruscant. This formative period in Fett’s life comes between the end of the prequel trilogy and the beginning of the original trilogy so we would have got to see a young man developing from a rage-filled kid into the best bounty hunter in the galaxy.
There’s some concept art, below, which shows what was to be the opening of the game on Tatooine. Fett hasn’t got all of his distinctive Mandalorian armour yet but he is wearing his dad’s helmet, which is a bit gross if you think about it. There are also beautiful concept paintings of the lower levels of Coruscant which are pieced together from scrapped ships that might be familiar.
The plot seems to have revolved around the spice trade (that’s basically drugs in Star Wars) run by the Hutts and other criminal families. There were other bounty hunters at work too, fighting for other families and Fett had a robot companion that fought alongside him.
It looked gorgeous in that E3 demo and it sounds like a really interesting project. Let’s hope Disney focus on something like this for a future Star Wars videogame project.

I really am gutted that this game was canned. It looked brilliant and focused on a character that everyone loves! The original E3 demo looked awesome.
The first Bounty Hunter game was a lot of fun so i’m hoping this gets put back into production. I read an article about this last night and apparently it was going to tie-in with the live action TV series that Lucas was planning. Sadly, neither seem to be happening any time soon.

That live action TV series has loads of scripts already written, apparently. They just thought it would be too expensive to make so they’re waiting for the technology and production techniques to get cheaper. Seems a no-brainer to me though, the world is surely ready for another proper space-bound sci-fi series and things like Battlestar Galactica and Firefly showed that there’s a space (ha!) for character-driven stories – with Star Wars’ much wider appeal, it could be super successful. I’m kinda hoping Disney see the value in that idea, to be honest. And hoping Agents of Shield does well for them so they open up to more spin offs for TV…
Back on topic: This did always look really good. That tech demo they screened at E3 was obviously very ambitious but the gameplay looked great as well as the graphics. I really hope the idea isn’t entirely dead but it doesn’t look too promising if former devs are now feeding assets to IGN :(

Well I look forward to the day that the show makes an appearance. Sci-Fi shows are in short supply these days! Although, I gave Defiance a chance and loved it!
But hopefully, one of EA’s teams will be making a similar game to this (if not this). We havn’t been told what their other studios are working on, other than DICE have we?

I loved Bounty Hunter when it came out, but I replayed it about a year ago and it’s nowhere near as good as I remember! Some bounties were nigh on impossible without a hell of a lot of luck, and it’s incredibly easy – I did a speed run using only the twin blasters and got through the game in 2 hours 15 mins.
Would love a Bounty Hunter 2 if the gameplay improved.

This. In fact this revelation makes me want to go play it again, it was damn fun.

Speed run challenge? ;)

This would’ve been brilliant on the PS4/Xbox One as well with the scale of that concept art. It’s pretty crap that a great looking and sounding game like this gets shelved. Fingers crossed EA.

Hang on.. this didn’t go through the official procedures we have set up for the news team. Who is the writer? Who let him in? Is he new?

This was one of my most anticipated games before it got canned. Hopefully EA does something with the assets since they have full access to everything Lucas Arts worked on.
