Sony have revealed that they will not be holding a press conference at this years Gamescom, instead opting to hold an “international media briefing” at Paris Games Week in October.
“We’re delighted to announce that we will be hosting an international media briefing at Paris Games Week on 27th October” said Sony.
“With the changes this year of E3 taking place a week later and Gamescom taking place earlier, we feel that both PlayStation and the wider industry would benefit from a major news milestone later in the year, during the most important period for gaming. We are excited about our plans and look forward to sharing some exciting announcements. We will share more information closer to the time.”
The decision to skip Gamescom will make this the first time that Sony have not held a conference at the event since its debut in 2009. There has been no confirmation as to whether there will be a PlayStation Experience this year. However, if there is and the event were to take place in December like it did last year, this would mean that there would only be just over a month between Paris Games Week and PS Experience.

I agree about the reasons why not to go to gamescom, but it’s still a shame and if Microsoft turn up this year, they can use it to their advantage by getting unopposed coverage of their games for a few days.
Then again, we could now see others follow Sony’s lead and Gamescom will be pretty much finished…:(

I think that Sony will skip it and make the release announcement for Morpheus to keep it in mind over holiday season because the lack of other titles.

I reckon you could be right, a big reveal of P Morpheus and release window at E3 then release date at above conference. Or Sony could surprise us at E3 and announce release date of this holiday seaso…. Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking.
