Community Chronicle: 20/12/15

In case you hadn’t noticed, 2015 is coming to an end within the next fortnight, and that means we’ll be taking a bit of a break. That’s not to say that there won’t be plenty more Game of the Year awards being handed out, the odd review still to come and the like, but in terms of the Chronicle, this will be the last one of the year.

As you might have expected, there’s also been a downturn in big and exciting news. In fact, there was really only one news story this week, and it’s one which has been rumbling on for most of 2015. Hideo Kojima has finally extricated himself from Konami, and has founded a new studio which is working on a new console exclusive for Sony.

“Best. Christmas. Present. Ever.” said DividSmythe, while TSBonyman wrote, “Huzzah! I’m looking forward to seeing what he is working on next.”

Beeje13 said, “OK, wow, that was quick, I guess it was right about Kojima only just officially leaving Konami. I’m sure where he is now he’ll be given full creative freedom,” but hornet1990 wasn’t quite so enamoured with the idea:

That’d be pretty dangerous, me thinks. At Konami he was clearly given too much freedom, which ultimately gave him more than enough rope to hang himself… many of these “artsy” types often have little business sense, hence why he was arranging for a ton of content development (or rework) only for it to be discarded later because he didn’t like it or had since changed his mind. That naturally has a huge impact on budgets and schedules so it’s no wonder he got the chop in the end.

Although it’s not clear how much Sony will be funding the new title I only hope that they keep him on a tight leash with well defined milestones and penalties for missing them which might keep him on the straight and narrow. Don’t fancy their chances mind…

For many, it was Andrew House’s sheer delight which was so captivating about all of this. Bunimomike said, “Andrew House’s enthusiasm, at the end of the video, is so wonderful that I’m sitting here grinning for him as well.”

Just as there’s life after Konami for Kojima, there’s life after Kojima for Konami, as they posted adverts saying that they’re hiring for a new Metal Gear project.

The response to this was somewhat more muted, as double-o-dave said, “Can’t say I’m too interested in a new Metal Gear game anyway, whether it’s from Konami or Kojima. In fact, I can’t say I’d be too interested in any game from Konami or Kojima full stop. I didn’t like the first Metal Gear game I tried a few years back with the 1,000 hrs of cutscenes & I didn’t particular enjoy the latest one much either after the first 3 or 4 hours.”

From a fan’s point of view, Lyts1985 was also less than enthusiastic, writing, “If MGSV is any indication of what happens to an MGS game when Konami get too involved, count me out. The first act was great, the second butchered act, not so much!”

JustTaylorNow pointed out the somewhat convenient timing of the advert, saying “Funny how they announce this now, just trying rub salt in kojima’s face. Let the man have his moment.”

Sometimes these things really are just a coincidence…

One thing I asked during this week’s What We Played was who had seen the new Star Wars film and what they thought of it. For those still waiting for the date and time on their cinema tickets, they’ll no doubt be glad to hear that almost everyone’s been giving it a big thumbs up!

But we’re here for the games, and you don’t get trophies for watching films! JR. gets us under way with a platinum for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, while BadBoyBoogie stakes his claim to the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 platinum record.

Tactical20 mixed things up by passing on the gaming achievements of his wife, who has quite obsessively blazed her way to 100% completion in Peggle 2.

And rounding things out, DividSmythe brought home the platinum for The Borderlands Collection, while Andrewww continues to find himself perplexed by the endings of games, as he reached the rather unusual conclusion to Catherine.

We’re nearly done, but you can head over to page two for the return of the Fastest Platinum boards. To finish off this page, we have the usual submission form for photos and accomplishments.
