Wrap yourselves up warm, because snow is coming to a city near you. Following on from the After Dark expansion which added a day-night cycle, Colossal Order are making the white stuff fall from the skies, in their next gameplay altering expansion. They announced this a couple weeks back, but have today shared a release date of February 18th and a price of $12.99 or £9.99
Just as with After Dark, some parts of this will be free for all, with the damp misery of cosmetic rain and fog effects coming alongside a few other still to be announced features. The snow and its effects on the city are exclusive to the paid expansion, however.
In addition to the visual effects of having snow blanketing all of the buildings, trees and open spaces, with a specific set of buildings to accommodate this, mayors will have to deal with snow on the roads and keeping the traffic moving with snow ploughs, as well as keeping roads in good repair to keep going at a fair clip regardless of the weather. Citizens might prefer to use the new trams system instead, though.
You’ll also have to contend with dropping temperatures, with colder weather having a knock on effect of using up more energy for heating homes. Alternatively, you can provide hot water with geothermal heating plants and boiler stations, requiring you to upgrade you water pipes network.
