First Major XCOM 2 Patch Goes Live

XCOM 2 has garnered a lot of critical and popular acclaim since it released on PC last month, but there were a few flies in the ointment, with a lot of people reporting poor performance.

Yesterday saw the first major patch released for the game, with a focus on trying to address these issues. So there’s bug fixes, balancing tweaks and performance optimisations to be found, as well as things like adjusting the graphics autodetection to target 40 frames per second instead of 30, resulting in a smoother experience during play.

There’s also a new “Zip Mode”, which will significantly speed up action animation speeds to cut down on play time, alongside a moderate increase to movement speeds.

One caveat is that you’ll need to restart the game a couple of times if you have mods installed, so that it can recognise their existence. Some mods might not be compatible with the new patch and need an update from their creators.
