It has been just over a year since Yooka-Laylee was successfully funded on Kickstarter, and since then news about the game has been very quiet. This was a deliberate decision made by Playtonic who wanted to wait until things had progressed well before showing off Yooka-Laylee, and what it would entail. At the moment there is no release date for the final game, but details of the story and Toybox demo have been confirmed.
Yooka-Laylee will see the pair of characters search for Paiges of the Grand Tomes, trying to find the secrets of the books. However they’ll be competing with Capital B whose aim is to own all the world’s literature, and turn it into profit. Joining Capital B in the cast list are Dr. Puzz, a multi limbed scientist who turns her back on Capital B. Dr Quack works for Capital B and designs all manner of inventions for his boss.
Kickstarted backers who funded the appropriate tiers will gain access to the Toybox in July, where they can try out Yooka-Laylee’s platforming, the moves the characters can do, and collectibles to find. The Toybox is a separate experience to the main game and is designed to not contain spoilers.
