It’s been ten years since the launch of PlayStation Store, and much like the fifth anniversary of PlayStation Plus, Sony are in the mood to celebrate. They’re sending out emails to PSN members with a collection of statistics from their time using the service, with a gentle nudge to go and buy more games at the bottom of the page.
It’s a lovely little gesture, and I’m sure many people will enjoy the crushing sense of despair you get from being told how many hours you’ve frittered away on Destiny or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but at the same time, I can’t help but feel that there’s something a little bit… off with my stats.
Update: As pointed out in the comments below, it’s likely that the “hours of online play” figure represents time that requires PS+. In other words, online play on PlayStation 4, with some parts of Destiny available to non-subscribers despite being an online only game.
So here’s the bit that doesn’t add up, beyond the (*$%£$( difficult trophy from Everybody’s Golf. Simply put, the number of hours of “online play” is less than Gran Turismo 5’s tally. I was initially a little surprised by the GT5 figure, until I remembered leaving the B-Spec running for hours and hours while I was out, occasionally checking in via the internet to see how they were doing. Shouldn’t that count towards my online play figure, though?
And what of Destiny? Apparently I “got into” Destiny during 2016 with 83 hours playing it, but that pales in comparison to how much time I spent with the game in 2014 and 2015. In fact, Bungie.net has me at 37 days and 18 hours, or 906 hours of Destiny, 100% of which will have been online. That leaves just 110 hours for the hours of Killzone 2, Gran Turismo 5, MAG – remember MAG? I loved that game, and it’s one of my 32 platinum trophies – Uncharted 2, and dozens of other fantastic online games.
In other words, I can’t help but feel these statistics are completely and utterly wrong. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to find someone to give me a hug and tell me it’s all going to be OK and that it really was worth all that time grinding bounties, strikes and raids…
Avenger
A load of nonsense. My stats are completely wrong, pretty much like everyone else’s is wrong too.
The top 1% for trophies could be correct if it’s taking into consideration every single psn account created, but still it does sound wrong, even then.
Jones81
The stats are definitely all wrong. Apparently i’ve spent 249 hours playing destiny, that’s bollocks as it’s more like 120ish. They got division playtime wrong aswell
Yahavage
373 hours on Battlefield 3 for me. I regret NOTHING
My rarest trophy sucks, it’s from Move fitness and I share it with 1306 people – “dodger, reach a score of at least 2000 in dodgeball without getting hit by a ball.” :/
Top % trophy definitely questionable, it has me listed in top 1% with a mere 7 platinum, 71 gold, 270 silver and 1560 bronze (yes I do start games and abandon them. A lot. I’m not proud of it). I’m 98% through, I highly doubt that leaves me in the top 1% lol.
Yahavage
edit: that’s supposed to say 98% through level 14!
gernboes
Those stats are completely wrong!
I just checked my rarest trophy as well as some that other people here posted on psnprofiles.com, and every one of them had more achievers than stated in the email. That means the real numbet on psn is even higher, because psnprofiles only tracks users of the site, not actual achievers.
Also my total online hours are the same amount i apparently spent in smite… Despite having played BF4, Division, Destiny, RS6 Siege, Dying Light, AC Unity, Farcry 3 & 4, Driveclub, Diablo, Helldivers, ESO, and many more on my PS4, i dont think that all of them dont need PSN plus?
double-o-dave
Well my rarest trophy is for Mantis Burn Racing, reaching level 50.
It seems only 218 other people have done this – Judging how many people were playing online when I last looked, I can quite believe it. I’m sure I’m only 1 or 2 trophies off the platinum but I got bored with it. Maybe they only sold a handful of copies too.
Youles
I’m in the 218 club – high-five!

Sweet!

Maybe the TSA should interview us and write an article about our rare success ;)
Also, judging by my above comment, you’d have thought i’d just find a haribo on my desk.
Youles
Haha! I want sweets now
Tuffcub
I haven’t got mine but I suspect my rare trophy might be one that only I have as I’ve had to review some utterly terrible games.
Flightx
Still haven’t received mine either but as I don’t get to review any game including terrible ones I wouldn’t be surprised if my rarest trophy is something for completing a tutorial

I recently looked at my GTA:O stats. Bad move.
I’ve played over 1000 hours. It works out at an average of 49 minutes a day for every day since it was launched, back on PS3!
kjkg
Most time for me was Pro Evo 2008. 345 hours.
My rarest trophy was from Everybody’s golf too oddly enough. Although the way they work it out is purely down to how many people earned that trophy out of everybody. Not really a true representation. It should be compared to only people that have played that game. If that was the case, my little deviants platinum is the rarest.
zb100
Rarest trophy “Raver” – I can line with that!
Lyts1985
These stats are definitely off but it was a nice surprise nonetheless. My most played online game didn’t surprise me in the slightest though!
Hours played – 216
Most played – COD4 365hrs
Top game of 2016 – The Witcher 3 243hrs
Rarest trophy – Chime Sharp\Up To 11\Shared with 49 people
Odd thing about that Chime trophy, according to the trophy list there is a rarer trophy in Chime Sharp that I’ve also collected… if less people have that trophy surely it would be my rarest? Odd.
Otherwise, I just wish they’d hurry up and release COD4 Remastered standalone!
