One of my most hotly anticipated games for Nintendo Switch, Splatoon 2 is coming out on 21st July, and bringing with it a brand new game mode called Salmon Run. Revealed in during tonight’s Nintendo Direct, it essentially boils down to a cooperative horde mode, but it’s a welcome expansion of the game, regardless.
Taking teams of four Inklings off to a remote artificial island, they’re there to battle against the Salmonid creatures that come out of the sea. They come in various sizes, with the biggest being the Boss Salmonid, and defeating waves after wave of them will reward you with Golden Eggs that can be taken back to Inkopolis for loot and rewards.
Beyond that, Splatoon 2’s amiibo support was announced, with a new boy, girl and squid amiibo on the way alongside the game. The old amiibo are supported as well, and tapping them to the NFC reader spawns that character in game to befriend. You’re able to use them as a way to save a particular outfit, pose with them for taking photos, and they might occasionally bring you rewards.
