Blizzard’s massively popular online shooter Overwatch will “likely” get three new maps for players to explore by the end of 2017. Game Director, Jeff Kaplan, recently dove into the game’s online forums, outlining the team’s plans for new maps:
We currently have 3 maps in development, all past the initial playtesting phase that are “standard” maps (QP/Comp). While something could always change, all 3 of those are looking likely for a release this year.
We also have 3 non-standard maps in development (these won’t go in QP/Comp).
We also have a few other experiments going on.
By “experiments”, Kaplan is no doubt referring to event-based game modes such as the recent “Uprising” PvE mission.
Compared to other online shooters the trickle of content may seem slow yet Overwatch continues to keep its fanbase engaged.
