It’s fair to say that Overwatch has been a bit of a hit, so it’s more than understandable that Blizzard want to celebrate its first anniversary. They’ve just kicked off this event, with new maps to play on, and new skins and dances to try and unlock through those ubiquitous loot boxes, as well as a sale and a free weekend.
The three new maps – Necropolis, Castillo and Black Forest – are smaller Arena maps for the Arcade mode that support up to 3v3 elimination matches. They’re themed after Temple of Anubis, Dorado and Eichenwalde, respectively.
While it’s a bit tricky for us to show you the new dances, but the new skins are below:
Not only that, but the Game of the Year version of the game has launched and is available on special offer digitally for $40 on Blizzard, PlayStation Store and Xbox Store. That translates to £34.99 on PC, £29.99 on PS4 and £30.24 for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. The GOTY is basically the same as what you could buy before – previously dubbed ‘Origins Edition’ – but comes with 10 loot boxes alongside it.
However, PC gamers can get a much better deal, able to buy the base game for just £16.99. That version of the game has been removed and replaced on PlayStation and Xbox by the GOTY.
Alternatively, you can just play the game for free this weekend, with a free trial running from 7PM BST on Friday 26th until 29th May.
