Who Won What At The PlayStation Awards 2017 In Japan

Sony Interactive Entertainment over in Japan has been celebrating games with the PlayStation Awards 2017. Unlike most awards ceremonies where the nominees are judged on merit, the awards are simply given to the games that have sold the most. It’s all rather self congratulatory and seems a little pointless but at least it gives us an idea of which games are popular in the East. The awards judge games that have been on sale up to September 30th 2017.

The PlayStation Network Award celebrates digital sales, and the winners in this category are:

  • Phantasy Star Online 2 – SEGA Games
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege – Ubisoft
  • FIFA 17 – Electronic Arts

Asia’s favourite PlayStation VR titles are

  • Resident Evil 7: Biohazard – Capcom
  • Farpoint – Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Summer Lesson: Allison Snow – Bandai Namco Entertainment

The top three indie games:

  • Mystery Gensokyo TOD -Reloaded- – Mediascape
  • 3on3 Freestyle – Joycity Corporation
  • Undertale – 8-4

Now on the games with huge numbers, the following titles won a Gold award, meaning they shifted over 500,000 units.

  • Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection – Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege – Ubisoft
  • FIFA 17 – Electronic Arts
  • FIFA 18 – Electronic Arts
  • Battlefield 1 – Electronic Arts
  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare – Activision (published by SIE in Japan)
  • Yakuza 6: The Song of Life – SEGA Games
  • Resident Evil 7: Biohazard – Capcom
  • Nioh – Koei Tecmo Games
  • NieR: Automata – Square Enix
  • Horizon Zero Dawn – Sony Interactive Entertainment

Next up is the Platinum Award for games that sold over 1 million copies.

  • Grand Theft Auto V – Rockstar Games
  • Final Fantasy XV – Square Enix
  • Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Square Enix

Finally we have the Double Platinum Award for games that sold over 2 million copies across the PlayStation formats, and there is only one winner. A surprising winner considering it’s age, but not that surprising considering the game is…
