Motion Aiming Quietly Added To Doom For Nintendo Switch In Update 1.1.1

Gyroscopically demonic.

While obviously making compromises to squish a full fat current gen shooter onto the system, dropping the visual quality and only aiming for 30fps instead of 60fps, Doom for Nintendo Switch was generally quite well received for the technical accomplishment, even if Dave opined that you probably still shouldn’t play it on the console.

Version 1.1.1 has been released to make it feel just that little bit more at home on the console, adding motion controls for aiming and melee finishers into the mix.

It’s something that should be fairly familiar for fans of the system, with both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Splatoon 2 featuring varying forms of motion aiming, but even PS Vita owners might remember having motion controlled aiming in Uncharted: Golden Abyss.

This has gone down pretty well with the Switch community on Reddit, with diegojms saying “Played 20 min with gyro aim now. It plays really great. It is like Splatoon 2, but with demons… and red ink.” and NewguyS79 saying, “Gyro aim is smooth and using it with Doom makes this so much faster, definetly a great addition.”

Oh, and the game also has a new icon for the Switch main menu to match the box art. You can see the game in action below, but for Switch owners out there, is this something that’s going to tip you over the edge?
