There’s a lot of built up history for players who have stuck with Telltale’s The Walking Dead, but with the branching narrative and story choices, the version of Clementine that you know and the experiences that she’s gone through could be quite a bit different to another player’s.
In a surprising but very welcome move, Telltale have now released a browser-based Story Builder – just head to telltale.com/storybuilder – to let you go through the events of the first three seasons and relive all the key moments and decision points within. At the end of it, you’ll be able to then export that into the final game when the first episode releases on 14th August.
This works on a few levels, as new players won’t have the perhaps somewhat daunting task of playing through the first few seasons to get to enjoy the finale, but also players that might have lost their save files on older consoles have can recover their story. Alternatively, it can be used as a way of exploring how the story might have panned out if you’d played it differently back in the day.
The Story Builder will work with all versions of The Final Season, so long as you log in or create a Telltale Games Account and use the cross-platform cloud saving feature that offers you.
As an added extra, if you complete the Story Builder, you’ll receive a downloadable post that has been built around your choices, with 32 variants. These have been created by Telltale’s Todd Pound, with the visuals in the Story Builder by comic book artist Dan Panosian and animated by Daniel Kanemoto.
Finally, if the Story Builder isn’t your bag, but you want to play the whole series, then pre-ordering the final season on PS4 or Xbox One will net you a copy of The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series Collection, which brings together the entire story so far into a single package.
