Monkey King: Hero Is Back Announced For PlayStation 4

The first game to be produced cooperatively by Chinese and Japanese development teams, Monkey King: Hero Is Back, will launch on PS4 in China at the start of 2019 and then head to other regions a little later.

The story, which lasts around ten hours, follows the titular Monkey King and is based on a 2015 animated movie of the same name which broke records as the highest-grossing animated film in China at the time of release. Along with Monkey and Pigsy you will also play as a young kid called Liu Jiang as a tale of discovery and friendship unfolds.

Judging by the trailer the game could be a lot of fun, there’s some genuinely funny scenes including Monkey attacking an enemy with a bench, and doing the old ‘look over there’ trick to distract an enemy.

The Monkey story has been adapted for video games a number of times, Western audiences are probably most familiar with Ninja Theory’s Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, a game that really needs remastering for this gen.
