Minecraft: Story Mode getting delisted on June 25th

You may remember the time when Telltale Games suddenly went out of business sending quite a shockwave through the industry. What many had considered a bit of a juggernaut had fallen and had left its franchises in limbo. Telltale’s The Walking Dead was saved by Skybound while other IPs were lost. We’ll miss you The Wolf Among Us. One of Telltale’s big series was Minecraft: Stoy Mode which had two seasons to it introducing a plot line to the crafting game. However, the game won’t be available for much longer.

It has been confirmed on the official Minecraft site that Minecraft: Story Mode Seasons 1 & 2 will both be delisted from all digital stores on June 25th as the game itself is no longer supported. The official statement reads as follows.

“On behalf of the publisher, Minecraft: Story Mode – A Telltale Games Series, Season 1 and 2 will no longer be supported on June 25th, 2019. If you have purchased these seasons, please download all remaining episodes prior to the service being discontinued in June.”

The stand out sentence in that statement is the second where it seems to be implied that the episodes will not be downloadable after June 25th, which is strange considering delisted games can usually still be downloaded by purchasers. One example where that wasn’t the case was the PT demo. Considering this was an item people have paid for the possibility of not being able to download the content may fall foul of certain consumer laws but considering the publisher in question doesn’t exist anymore that’d be a legal mire to work out of where responsibility lies.

Minecraft: Story Mode did have a physical release but that would only give access to one episode with the rest having to be downloaded. Considering this may not be possible any more retailers may be stuck with useless stock in their inventory which may have to be disposed of too as the discs would no longer be fit for purpose. We’ll find out on June 25th I’d imagine. Minecraft: Story Mode has been available on PS4, PS3, PC, Mac, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android.
