Right now CDProjektRED is getting a lot of attention for Cyberpunk 2077 and what could be a very interesting and fun open world title, but let’s not forget that developer is responsible for some other great gaming IPs. One of those is the Witcher card spin off Gwent: The Witcher Card Game with CDProjektRED supporting that title alongside its other development duties. The latest news for Gwent is that a new expansion coming and it is based upon Novigrad.
The Novigrod expansion adds the Syndicate faction to the game with this faction being representative of Novigrod’s criminal underworld. The Syndicate will add 90 new cards to the game including 15 of which that can be placed in other faction decks, three cards unique to the other factions. There will be five new leaders including the King of Beggars, Cleaver, and Hemmelfart with their own unique abilities to use in the game. The Novigrod brings another major change as well.
That’s the Crowns system where players can use the currency to activate special card abilities for a fee. These abilities include summoning additional units or the card itself becoming stronger. Where there’s fees though there is profit to be made as well. Any card that is played with the profit ability will grant Crowns to the player. Profit can also be made by playing Crime cards or placing bounties on certain enemy cards and collecting when that card has been destroyed. Cards with the Insanity ability can be played for a reduced fee but the difference in price is paid back in health points which will hamper the card that has been played.
Novigrod will be available on June 28th for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game.
