The Coalition has confirmed that Gears of War 5 will not have a season pass, no gear packs and that all DLC maps will be free for matchmaking and private play. The studio revealed details on how players will be getting content through Gears 5 by detailing the Tour of Duty system which is the earnable content system. Through taking on daily challenges and medals players will earn customisation options including skins for characters. Tour of Duty rewards are also awarded through where players end up on leaderboards in the Escape and Versus modes.
Supply drops are another way to get content. Every single minute played in multiplayer will give players contributions towards item drops. Any duplicate cards that could be earned will be changed in to scrap which can be used to supply items. The Coalition has confirmed that players will be able to buy content if they wish by buying Iron currency. Iron can also be earned through playing. All items will be clearly priced and there will be no random loot when buying. You’ll get exactly what you pay for.
The Coalition also reaffirmed the date for when the Versus technical test will take place with that being on July 19th. The studio will confirm details of what players can expect in the test closer to the time.
