Storm In A Teacup’s alternative history game Close to the Sun is heading to Switch, publisher Wired Productions has confirmed. It will release alongside the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game later this year, though you can already get your hands on it on PC through the Epic Games Store. Close to the Sun is set in an alternate 19th century where Nikola Tesla has found a lot of success, so much so he has created the scientific research ship Helios on which the greatest minds can carry out experiments and make discoveries in peace. It does appear to have some inspirations from BioShock.
Players take on the role of Rose who has gone to the ship to find her sister Ada. What she finds is a scene of horror due to the ship being in quarantine and death lingering in its hallways. Rose needs to find out what has happened aboard the Helios as well as the fate of her sister. Steve reviewed Close To The Sun a few weeks back and in the review he stated, “Close to the Sun manages to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The early parts of the game establish a genuinely interesting narrative and world before the later parts throw most of this away in favour of repetitive and dull chase sequences. The narrative remains interesting enough to keep you playing and there’s some strong character development, but the ending comes as a relief rather than a reward. It isn’t a disaster but it is a missed opportunity..”
