In what is fast becoming a horrifically regular story, another high profile streamer has been dropped due to allegations of sexual harassment. Matthew ‘Caff’ Meredith has been removed from the Yogcast team as eight victims of harassment have come forward.
“As you know, the Yogscast expects the highest levels of professionalism from its talent and that it is central to the company and its ethos that our fans and community are considered first,” wrote Yogscast CEO Mark ‘Turps’ Turpin on Reddit.
“Having reviewed the evidence and carefully considered this situation, we have concluded that Caff’s conduct is a material breach of our talent agreements and code of conduct that results in us terminating his relationship with the Yogscast effective immediately. He is no longer part of the Yogscast collective.”
The mod team for his ‘Caffcast’ video channel have released a statement saying they have “corroborated and proven evidence… that Caff has been abusing his position as a content creator for at least the last three years to pursue sexual relationships with those he has power and influence over, using his position as a point of coercion and control.”
“Caff consistently suggested we hire women to the mod team even if those women were fairly inactive community members or unsuitable to hold the position,” they added.
“Some of these suggestions were rejected, however it was later found that others who we accepted were predated on further by Caff. We now believe in retrospect that his reasons for suggesting these women were to gain additional access ot these members in a closer environment to be able to more easily groom them for his sexual motivations.”
The mod team have said that although they knew Caff was in a long term relationship they were asked not to mention this, with hindsight they admit they can now see this was to allow him to “appear single in order to groom and enter into relationships with members of the community.”
The entire Caffcast team has left “as we cannot stand complicit in support of Caff”.
His YouTube channel is still live but appears commenting on all the videos has been turned off, his Twitter and Patreon have been closed.
