Borderlands 3 won’t have cross play support at launch confirms Randy Pitchford

There are a lot of people looking forward to Borderlands 3 and a lot of people will be looking to play this much-anticipated looter shooter with their friends. Some of those friends may be on different consoles though but in this day and age that’s becoming less of a barrier as the various platform manufacturers embrace cross-play, even if Sony were a bit slow to the party. Unfortunately though Randy Pitchford has confirmed that Borderlands 3 won’t be launching with cross-play enabled, but has stated that Gearbox will be working with partners to get it enabled as soon as possible post-launch.

There is a teaser for something to be shown today though in regards to Borderlands 3, and it was this that prompted Randy to state today’s announcement would have nothing to do with cross-play. The teaser for whatever it is that is getting announced is below. It looks like a wedding invitation but other than that there are no clues as to what it could be for. Maybe you can marry companions in the game. It could be done in an utterly bonkers Borderlands way.

Maybe though you’re not concerned with the cross-play status or co-op mode with friends. If that’s the case you could have a read of Miguel’s impressions of Borderlands 3, in which he explored the multiplayer tools that will be present for single players to interact with. In his article Miguel wrote, “Borderlands 3 is shaping up to be a hell of a package. The baddy-blasting action and gun-hoarding of the last game is only amplified, on top of being complemented by new customisation features and some really intriguing new online mechanics. It’s been a long time coming, but with a showing like this, I’m confident that the wait for Borderlands 3 will be well worth it.”
