Fortnite seems to be getting an IT Chapter 2 crossover

We are just hours away from the release of IT Chapter Two in the cinemas, murderous clown Pennywise returns to terrorise the now grown up children from the first movie and that may not be the only place you will see him.

Players in Fortnite have spotted red balloons, iconic imagery from the films, appearing above drains on the map, the location we meet Pennywise in the first movie. When the balloons are popped they explode in a flourish of glitter and a demonic laugh can be heard.

Dataminers discovered references to the movie in the game code last month and the IT Chapter 2 twitter account has retweeted speculation of the tie in. Epic have not officially announced the event but it does seem slightly questionable.

The IT movies are very graphic, the first film had a child’s arm being ripped off within the few minutes, so shoving them in a game aimed at kids seems a bit odd. That said, Epic did have a John Wick tie in the other week so clearly that sort of thing doesn’t bother them. ‘Cos, you know, money.

The last crossover event found Borderlands 3 being promoted in Fortnite with the Pandora Rift zone, a psycho bandit skin, a Claptrap pet, and a Psycho Buzz axe. Other promotions have included Netflix’s Stranger Things, Avengers Endgame, Wreck It Ralph, and EDM pop muppet, Marshmello.

The V10.20 patch went live recently check out the patch notes below.
