UK Charts 21/09/19 – Link’s Awakening in the top spot

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake for Nintendo Switch has handily conquered the UK retail charts and become the biggest Zelda launch in the UK so far. Not only that, but it’s the fastest-selling Switch game of the year, surpassing Super Mario Maker 2. Not bad for a 26-year-old, eh?

The game’s launch came alongside the release of the Nintendo Switch Lite, and combined they’ve had a big impact on Switch game sales in general. Breath of the Wild is now in 16th with a 22% sales increase, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe back in 3rd with a 23% bump, Smash Bros. Ultimate had a 15% bump, and Super Mario Odyssey jumped up 18%. A good week all round for Nintendo.

Link’s Awakening toppled last week’s leader Borderlands 3, but despite a 69% drop in sales from its first week, it clung onto 2nd place. Nice. Gears 5 then dropped from 2nd to 4th, while eFootball PES 2020 rounded out the top 5.

Of course, all of this means absolutely nothing, because it’s just the physical sales and not digital. So that’s nice.

Note: Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch has two entries, the “Remastered” one being for PS4 sales in 26th, and non-remastered port for Switch in 23rd.
