Next Tuesday alongside the paid expansion Shadowkeep there will also be a new free-to-play version of Destiny 2 subtitled ‘New Light’. Bungie have outlined the content in the free version and there is a lot of it.
Here’s a brief run down of what to expect:
- All of the Year 1 Exotic armor and weapons
- Thunderlord, Arbalest, Outbreak Perfected, and Bad Juju Year 2 Exotics
- Access to all destinations
- The Red War campaign
- The Curse of Osiris campaign
- The Warmind campaign
- All Year 1 Nightfall Strikes
- Strike playlists
- Vanguard weapons and gear
- Access to all Crucible playlists
- Crucible weapons and gear
- Black Armory forges
- Gambit
- Gambit Prime
- The Menagerie
- Private matches in both Crucible and Gambit
- Year 1 Raids
- Year 1 Raid weapons and gear
- Free Seasonal ranks and rewards
- Levelling up to max power
- In Game Events: Iron Banner, Festival of the Lost, The Dawning, Crimson Days, The Revelry, Solstice of Heroes.
Basically it’s the entire game but without the Year 2 content. Going forward you will be able to pick and choose which expansions you wish to buy as the game will no longer require you to have purchased previous expansions to continue the story.
The internet is, of course, moaning like a baby because something they paid for three years ago is now free. Other’s are worried about the influx of new players and have created this Triumph sheet, admittedly it’s quite amusing.
Those who do upgrade to Shadowkeep have even more content to look forward to. The documentary below shows more of the Moon location which has had a few changes since Destiny 1 as Scorn can be seen scampering around, they were not present last time. There will also be ‘Nightmares’, manifestations of trauma encountered by previous Guardians, and these can become real. Or, in simpler terms, Bungie get to re-use a load of old character models.
Destiny 2: New Light launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam on October 1st. It will also be coming to Google Stadia, whenever that launches.
