Respawn has released new trailers for season 3 of Apex Legends with this season called Meltdown, and it is set to launch on October 1st. The new season brings a one of the biggest changes to the free to play battle royale as players will be transported to a new arena called World’s Edge which is located on Planet Talos, and this arena mixes chemical ice and molten lava so plenty of environmental danger to watch out for.
The new map isn’t the only addition in Season 3 as the brand new legend, Crypto. Crypto is a character best utilised for scout type players who want to survey the battlefield before entering any fray and dealing some damage to the opposition. You can check out some of Crypto’s gameplay in the new Season 3 gameplay trailer below.
In addition to the new map and legend there’s the new Charge Rifle weapon which fires an energy beam at enemies and a new battle pass which contains new character skins, some of which you can see in the trailer above. The Ranked Series has had some changes applied to it with more RP points being awarded, but there are also changes to the entry costs for Ranked matches which are highlighted below.
- Bronze matches are still free
- Silver matches cost 12RP
- Gold matches cost 24RP
- Platinum matches cost 36RP
- Diamond matches cost 48RP
- Apex Predator matches cost 60RP
Assists will be used towards the kill score as well provided damage was done to an opponent within five seconds of getting knocked down. Cosmetic rewards will be given out for performances. Players who are ranked gold or higher will get gun charms while diamond and Apex players will get custom dive trails. Player penalties will be enabled from the start of the new series so if a teammate leaves they will suffer a matchmaking penalty in both ranked and regular modes.
