Sonic’s guest appearance in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD leaked a few days ago and has now been confirmed in this new gameplay video. However, you won’t be able to pick Sonic from the start as he, along with costumes for AiAi and friends, need to be unlocked by playing through the game.
Along with an extra boost of speed, picking Sonic will turn the bananas in to classic Sonic style gold rings and they will also have the original tinkling sound effect. Here’s a little more on the game.
- Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz is Back in HD: Originally released on the Wii in 2006, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD reinvigorates the original game with 100 single-player stages, 10 multi-player mini-games, revamped control schemes, updated graphics, and more.
- Online Leaderboards: A first for the series, players can now compete with others around the world through online leaderboards for single-player Time Attack and the all-new Mini-Game Decathlon Score Attack modes.
- No Monkey Business – Play Your Way: Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam. With uniquely optimized control schemes for each platform, everyone from first-time rollers to world-record holders can jump right in to the fun!
Director Masao Shirosaki recently gave his thoughts on bringing that game to new consoles. In a short video he says he’s happy about bringing the game to a new audience, and that he hopes he doesn’t spoil the work that was done by the team of the original game.
Sega have also released a new live action video which is just odd. AiAi is now played by a rather large, bearded and quite buff man, check it out.
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD will launch on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 29th.
