Grab the free demo for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 for Nintendo Switch now!

A real contender for gold medal in the ‘ungainly game name’ competition, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 is out on Nintendo Switch in just a couple weeks on 8th November (or 5th Nov in the US and 1st Nov in Japan). You can check it out a bit early though, with a free demo now available on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

Here’s a link to grab the demo and have it downloaded to your Switch: Nintendo eShop

Alternatively, you can find the demo by searching for the game on the eShop directly on your Nintendo Switch.

The demo features a selection of both 2D and 3D events to try out, either solo or in local multiplayer, and includes two new events for this game, Surfing and Karate.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 sees the former plumber (he took early retirement, remember?) and his spiky former platformer game rival bring their competition to the Olympic Games for the sixth time, both with the Summer Games and Winter Games. There’s a wide range of over 30 events to test yourself in – other new ones include Skateboarding and Sport Climbing – and a lovely retro homage to the 1964 Summer Olympics with a 2D mode that features 8-bit Mario and 16-bit Sonic style sprites.

The full game also has many more multiplayer options, including local wireless play and online against up to seven other competitors, depending on the event.

We went hands on with the game at E3, writing in our preview that “Mario & Sonic is shaping up to be another fun collection of simple yet satisfying mini-games. Sure, there’s the (110m) hurdles of learning each game’s controls, which can make of break an experience like this, but when it does click, some of these games have that ‘it’ factor that could have you loading them up over and over again to get a perfect score or beat a friend.”
