Overwatch has spent more than three years refining and enhancing its premier Hero Shooter schtick – and it’s even just arrived on the Nintendo Switch! – but as they say all things must come to an end. Don’t go doing anything silly though, as Overwatch 2 is just around the corner. Well, probably a six to twelve month, fairly substantial corner.
As an industry that loves a good sneak peek, or even a leak, Overwatch 2 has you covered as ESPN have unearthed a document that seems to indicate what we’re going to learn about Blizzard’s shooter sequel at their huge yearly event, BlizzCon. A leak about a sneak peek? Surely it’s the best day ever! And BlizzCon starts this Friday so we’ve barely got to wait any time at all too.
We’d already learned that Overwatch 2 is bringing a PvE mode with it, and seemingly it’s going to be a four player co-op story mode affair, set in Lucio’s home of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Given that the imagery we’ve seen so far showcases Lucio it’s probably a decent guess that he’s going to feature heavily in whatever shenanigans Blizzard has planned. Or maybe he’s just DJing at a party that goes very very wrong.
Besides the headline story mode, fans will no doubt be clamouring for word on the new game mode entitled Push, alongside the reveal of a new map set in Toronto, which will undoubtedly please the Toronto Defiant Overwatch team and Canadians everywhere. We’ll also apparently going to get to see at least one new hero that’ll bring the roster up to 32, assuming all the current stars make it to the sequel.
It’ll probably be a good guess that Overwatch 2 will be making an appearance on PC, PS5 and Xbox Scarlett, but we wouldn’t expect PS4 or Xbox One owners to be left out in the cold. The big question will be whether Blizzard can squeeze it onto the Switch, and given how well they did with the original we’re hoping they can. Let’s hope that it doesn’t take three years this time though…
