Twitch Prime subscribers can now get their hands on the latest batch of free games being offered through the service. There are five games up for grabs and these are Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition, Planet Alpha, Sword Legacy Omen, Turmoil, and Double Cross. We’ve reviewed a couple of these games so here are our thoughts before you definitely decide to download the titles. First off Planet Alpha and for that Steve had this to say.
Whilst an enjoyable and undoubtedly beautiful game, Planet Alpha never quite makes the leap into classic territory. There is an admirable sense of vision here and the commitment to a non-verbal narrative is striking, but Planet Alpha remains a functional game under the gorgeous aesthetic. The fusions of cinematic platformer and endless runner often feel at odds with one another as the game pushes you forward when you most want to stand back and enjoy the view. Life here comes at you fast; blink and you’ll be vaporised or crushed by a mile high leviathan.
You can read the full Planet Alpha review here. While we didn’t quite review Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition we did review the original release. Blair summarised the game by saying:
Whilst Death’s entry in the Darksiders series certainly has better gameplay mechanics and a better style than War’s, the story fails to make a mark and the game, for as big as it is, can soon become monotonous at points. It’s still a good game, though, with excellent RPG elements, flowing combat, some brilliant boss battles and lots to do post-completion. If you enjoyed the first game, then it’s definitely worth a look, just don’t expect to be blown away by level design or narrative.
