Horizon Zero Dawn returns in 2020 in a different format

Issue #0 of the first Horizon Zero Dawn comic, co-created by the writer of the game, Anne Toole, will be available as part of Free Comic Book Day 2020. Here’s the synopsis:

An exclusive lead-in story to a brand-new Horizon Zero Dawn ongoing comic series. Discover a far-future Earth full of epic natural beauty, where awe-inspiring machines are the dominant species. Talanah, Sunhawk of the Hunters Lodge, struggles to find purpose after Aloy, her trusted friend, disappears. When a mysterious new threat emerges in the wilds, she returns to her roots as a hunter to defeat it, only to learn that a whole new breed of mechanized killers stalks the land.

Although it is not stated that seems to suggest the story is set after the end of the first game. There is no indication if this is cannon for the series, if it is it could be a clue as to what happens in the inevitable sequel. Personally I would rather like Horizon Zero Dawn 2 to be a prequel and cover the events when then machines arose.

We do know a sequel to the game is in production as actress Janina Gavankar, who played Tatai in The Frozen Wilds DLC, has said so.

Gavankar was at the Star Wars Celebration in March and talked to a cosplayer who was dressed as her character from Star Wars Battlefront 2. The conversation moved on to Horizon Zero Dawn and Janina exclaims “It’s incredible. Just wait ’til you see the sequel, you’re gonna die.I know some secrets, you’re gonna die.”

Other than that no other information on the game has leaked out so if you see someone claiming to know plot details or a release date they are talking out of their buttocks.

The first game is to join PS Now in January alongside Uncharted spin-off Uncharted: Lost Legacy where players will head to India to join Chloe who partners with Nadine Ross as they hunt for the Tusk of Ganesh.
