Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary PC test flights will start this month

The arrival of Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Windows 10 will move onto its next stage later this month, as 343 Industries start holding test flights of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. There’s no date for when they expect to have a final release of Halo: Combat Evolved, but it should hopefully be a fair bit quicker than the 5 months that Halo: Reach spent in testing, since Halo: Reach itself is already out.

How do you get into this testing lark? Well, it might take you a little while to work your way up the ranks. Testing will start with Ring 1 and 2, both of which are close partners and trusted people to 343 Industries – you’ll already know that you’re in this ring – and this will hopefully get under way later this month. Ring 3 is where regular Halo Insiders are, but being a Halo Insider is not a guarantee for access, which will be dependent on various factors such as hardware specs, location, player experience. That said, 343 flag a few things that might hold them up. For one thing, it’s not just about the game being ported over to PC, it’s also about how it gets to end users. Releasing the collection one game at a time, The Master Chief Collection needs a new intelligent install system, so that games can be bought and installed separated and in any order, and with different parts of the games as well.

Before they can even get to evaluating that, though, 343 are having to deal with a keyboard & mouse issue for the unrelated Halo Wars 2, diverting some of their internal resources, specifically staff that deal with test flighting.

343 are also working on some outstanding issues with Halo: Reach and across the Master Chief Collection. With the Christmas break, it’s taken longer than fans would have hoped to address them. These changes will be tested through flighting, just as Halo: CE is, with 343 keeping mum on what they will be. However, they did tease that one change coming is a new crouch behaviour so you can crouch while moving, with support coming to both mouse and keyboard and gamepad.
