Resident Evil 3 producer Peter Fabiano has been speaking to the Official PlayStation Magazine about the upcoming Resident Evil: Resistance game. As a quick refresher, Resident Evil: Resistance is a spin-off multiplayer title in which four players attempt to survive the traps of the Mastermind, who is another player. Survivors win if they escape and the Mastermind wins if they don’t. You can watch some gameplay below.
You may wonder then how this fits into the Resident Evil canon and Peter has confirmed exactly where in the timeline it fits. Short answer is that Resident Evil Resistance does not fit the timeline anywhere.
“[Resident Evil Resistance] is basically set in Raccoon City with scenarios that make it impossible to fit in the actual timeline”, even while players can expect to “see familiar enemies and characters like Mastermind. You’ll remember that the Japanese subtitle for RE3 was Last Escape. Both of these titles have characters that are trying to escape somewhere or something, so thematically it made sense. We also wanted to take up the challenge of building out an online game set in the RE universe.”
It was also recently confirmed that Resident Evil 3 does away with multiple endings so will establish a proper canon, and that Carlos will be a playable character. A couple of weeks back a brand new trailer for Resident Evil 3 was released and it shows some Nemesis action. Resident Evil 3 will be released on April 3rd, and will have Resident Evil: Resistance packaged in.
