Mimimi Games and THQ Nordic have revealed the release date for Desperados III. The real-time tactical western will be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on 16th June.
A sequel to the cult classics from the early 2000s, Desperados III is a prequel to those original games, revealing the origins of series protagonist John Cooper and his infamous gang of outlaws. The game has an isometric view on the action, letting you organise and execute various plans of attack to overcome the enemies before you. You’ll be leaning on each character’s special abilities, from bounty hunter Doc McCoy and the hulking trapper Hector, to Miss Kate O’Hara, the Voodoo techniques of Isabelle Moreau, and of course John himself.
The game comes from developer Mimimi Games. They cut their tactical action teeth elsewhere though, making a name for themselves with 2016’s Shadow Tactics, and it’s really this game and what they learnt from it that makes the basis for Desperados III, giving more fluidity and leeway for players.
A few versions of the game are going to be available for pre-order, with the standard edition available for PC at €49.99 / $49.99 / £44.99 – pre-ordering gets you a free bump up to the Digital Deluxe Edition – while the game is to be €59.99 / $59.99 / £49.99 for PS4 and Xbox One digitally or physically.
There’s then a Collector’s Edition, which will set you back €109.99 / $109.99 / £99.99 on PC and €119.99 / $ 119.99 / £109.99 on consoles.
I got to check the game out at Gamescom last year, finding myself very impressed with the fluidity of the layers tactical action:
