Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris delayed until July confirms Bandai Namco

Bandai Namco has confirmed that it is delaying the release of Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The game was set to be released next month on May 22nd, but the new date is now July 10th. The news came via a statement put up by the publisher on Twitter. Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris was first announced back in March last year so fans have had a bit of time to wait for the game.

In the statement Bandai Namco writes:

“We have been working hard on Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris for our fans who are looking forward to the next Sword Art Online title. Due to the ongoing world events, we have made the difficult decision to move the release date of Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris to July 10th, 2020. We believe that this is the best way to ensure that Sword Art Online fans are delivered the best Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris experience.”

Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris marks the first time one of the Sword Art Online games has directly adapted a storyline from the anime. In Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris Kirito finds himself in Underworld where the AI is much more humanlike than in other worlds. In this place Kirito finds Eugeo and they form a pact to work together, but not everything is simple though as the quest is based around finding Alice and rescuing her. Kirito will have to face off against the Integrity Knights in the Central Cathedral of the Underworld to complete his mission.

Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris will be released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
