Destiny 2 confirmed to be heading to PS5 and Xbox Series X

Bungie has just confirmed that it will be releasing Destiny 2 on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The news came via a Tweet the company posted in reply to the official Xbox account which had listed the developers that would be creating games for the Xbox Series X. However, it is not yet clear how the transition between generations will occur but Bungie has stated that it will release more details soon on how Destiny 2 will be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Destiny 2 could be a Smart Delivery title meaning players who own and play the game on Xbox One will get access to all of the same owned content on Xbox Series X. It is yet to be confirmed by Sony if it is adopting a similar system which has seen  the likes of CD Projekt RED and Ubisoft confirm that players who purchase Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla on Xbox One will get the game at no extra cost on the Xbox Series X. If Sony does confirm a similar system then it is likely Destiny 2, as well as the games mentioned, will take advantage of the opportunity.

There is also the question regarding multiplayer. Destiny 2 does support cross-save across platforms but does not support cross-play. However, will Bungie allow Xbox One players to play with Xbox Series X players, and PS4 players to play with PS5 players? While technically cross-platform allowing for play between the two generations would mean that newer generation owners will not be at risk of having a diminished player population base compared to the PS4 and Xbox One. These are no doubt questions that Bungie has answers too and the company will be releasing all of this information in the near future.
