The next survival horror game from Wales Interactive, Maid of Sker will be out in July for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam. This is a delay of around a month from the 4th June release date that was originally planned.
Explaining the decision, Game Director Richard Pring said, “The new date will enable Maid of Sker to launch simultaneously across digital and physical platforms, whilst also allowing for the team to fine-tune the macabre horror in Maid of Sker to its absolute-ly terrifying limits!”
The game is set in 1898 at the Hotel Sker with a lot of themes and inspiration coming from Welsh folklore. The game will be one of those horror titles where you will be sneaking around the grounds of Hotel Sker and avoiding combat as you will die otherwise.
Maid of Sker has been written by the writing team behind SOMA and Don’t Knock Twice, and they have used the story of Elisabeth Williams. According to Welsh folklore, Elisabeth was locked in a room by her father where she died of heartbreak.
The Maid of Sker’s full story will encompass the theme s of torture, piracy, slavery, and the supernatural. Speaking about the announcement David Banner, managing director of Wales Interactive said:
“We’re so excited to be announcing Maid of Sker. For us at Wales Interactive Maid of Sker is a fantastic chance to share some Welsh heritage with the rest of the gaming world and frighten them all at the same time!”
Maid of Sker’s features include:
- 3D sound-based AI system as the core survival mechanic.
- A chilling story inspired by Welsh folklore fusing psychological, gothic and British horror.
- Realistic visuals featuring 4k uncapped on PC and enhancements on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.
- Re-imagining of famous Welsh hymns Calon Lân (A Pure Heart), Suo-Gân (Welsh Lullaby) and Ar Hyd Y Nos (All Through the Night) from the spine-chilling voice of Tia Kalmaru.
