Warhammer 40,000 spin-off Necromunda coming to PC and consoles this summer

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from developer Rogue Factor and their upcoming game, Necromunda: Underhive Wars. The Canadian studio has now re-emerged clutching a slew of new details alongside a rather flashy cinematic trailer.

It will be launching “this summer” and not just on PC but PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well. Whether all versions will release on the same day has yet to be confirmed.

Necromunda is a name that should be instantly familiar to those who love their tabletop gaming. Created by Games Workshop in 1995, it’s a skirmishing spin-off from their ever-popular Warhammer 40,000 franchise.

However there are some keys differences. Instead of huge battlefields being torn apart by entire armies and their machines of war, Necromunda is set within a city contested by warring gangs in search of plunder and dominance. There’s more of a Mad Max/cyberpunk vibe and it was only recently that Games Workshop revived the Necromunda tabletop game.

This video game adaptation will be based on this version. Here are some more details about what to expect:

Necromunda: Underhive Wars brings you closer to the action than any tactical game before, giving you an over-the-shoulder view of every lethal takedown, brutal melee engagement and explosive firefight. Dive deep in the twisted, vertiginous, dark tunnels of the Underhive in this tactical RPG’s compelling story campaign and Salvage Operations, where rival gangs will fight to the bitter end for personal power, wealth, survival and the honour of their Houses. Lead, grow and customize your gangs in action-packed, persistent game modes, where you’ll bring your forces to fight against the AI, or with up to three other players online. The choices, and consequences, are yours – only the strongest will survive.

Necromunda fans may be wondering whether the Games Workshop license has been placed in good hands. Rogue Factor’s previous game, Mordheim: City of the Damned, was a very similar adaption based on the Warhammer Fantasy spin-off. It scored a 5/10 in our review though I was personally quite enamoured even with the game’s rough edges.

Gameplay and more details for Underhive Wars will be coming very soon.
