Resident Evil 8: Village announced for PS5, Xbox Series X & PC, coming out in 2021

Capcom have just dropped the first trailer for Resident Evil Village. I mean, it’s obviously Resident Evil 8, with the roman numeral VIII hidden in the word Village. Very clever, Capcom. The game will be coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC via Steam in 2021.

There’s some strong Resident Evil 4 vibes going on with panicked villagers and witches in the above trailer. Set a few years after Resident Evil 7, this is an all-new storyline that starts with Ethan and his wife Mia living somewhere nice and calm, only for their world to be turned upside down by nightmares once again.

Chris Redfield shows up, having made a brief cameo at the end of Resi 7, but something up with him. He’s decked out all in black and total bad guy now.

The game will retain Resident Evil 7’s first person viewpoint – Capcom went back to third person for the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes – really putting you in Ethan’s shoes as you try to survive the new enemies that have beset the snowy mountain village.

Resident Evil 8-age is still relying on the RE Engine that has featured in several of Capcom’s most recent blockbusters, including the last three Resident Evil games and Devil May Cry 5. Of course, combining this with the power of next gen systems allows them to push the engine’s graphical excellence to even greater heights.

Resident Evil 7 was a brave new reboot for the series from Capcom, but we loved it as they stepped away from the doldrums of Resident Evil 6 and the countless spin-offs. In our review, Jim said:

“For them to successfully steer one of their flagships back on track, Capcom has done what many thought was unthinkable. It was less than twelve months ago that the publisher released Umbrella Corps, at which point I – and no doubt many others – were ready to call time on the series. Resident Evil 7 definitely has a handful of weak points, but it’s by far the best AAA survival horror game we’ve seen in quite some time.”

Needless to say we can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store for the future.
