Fortnite: Chapter 2 – Season 3 is finally here! Splashdown has flooded the game’s map and brought with it a sea of changes, including the addition of Aquaman as a character skin and rideable sharks. Is this what Epic think will happen if global warming manages to melt the ice caps?
Season 3 follows on from the Doomsday event, which saw the traditional shrinking storm replaced by a huge tsunami wave that washed across the world map. Nothing if not adaptable, the island’s residents got to rebuilding in the wake of the storm, dealing with life on a partially flooded island that now provides the backdrop to the game’s battle royale showdowns.
In truth, most of the map is basically the same, but the water level is higher, covering up areas like The Grotto. Epic say that this will continue to change: “As time goes on and water recedes, even more locations will be uncovered and as the roadways become more open, you’ll discover new ways to get around.”
That will include having cars, boats and helicopters to get around, and “item hungry and dangerous” sharks that you can latch onto with a fishing rod to ride. Meanwhile whirlpools are now spread out over the island, letting players quickly get out of an area on their gliders.
There’s the usual shake up of weapons and items, with new shotguns, drum guns and burst weapons, as well as the return of the Hunting Rifle. Chug Jugs and Chug Splashes are also making a comeback. Handy when battling the new Marauder enemies that can come crashing down.
You’ve got a new Build-a-Brella mechanic through the season, letting you customise your glider however you see fit, and, of course, there’s a new Battle Pass, this time featuring Kit, a kitten the rides a motorbike mech, and DC superhero Aquaman as unlockable skins.
