Gearing up for the upcoming release of Microsoft Flight Simulator, Thrustmaster have added a more suitable flight stick to their line up. The Thrustmaster Civil Aviation range is all about emulating the look and feel of the Airbus A320’s iconic sidestick, available starting with the TCA Sidestick Airbus Edition on 25th June, and continuing with further products and accessories in September.
The central product really is the TCA Sidestick Airbus Edition, emulating the Airbus A320’s sidestick for a more authentic feel in flight sims, but still being more than capable enough of handling a little bit of combat in a dogfighting game. The joystick features four swappable head button modules, based off similar modular controller tech as found in the Thrustmaster eSwap Pro Controller, and those are alongside a trigger, hat, 12 remappable buttons, built in throttle and Z-axis rudder control.
The TCA Sidestick Airbus Edition is available on 25th June for £64.99 / $69.99 / €69.99.
However, that’s just the start, with Thrustmaster lining up a TCA Quadrant Airbus Edition throttle to launch in September. Again, based on the Airbus A320’s design, it has a stepped mode with detents to match its inspiration, though this can be turned off if you prefer. There’s dual thrust levels, with eight physical action buttons (and 8 virtual buttons on the thrust levers), a built in reverser mechanism. This can be further expanded by a Quadrant Add-On, which can replicate real life air brake, flaps, autobrake and parking brake features from the airliners.
The TCA Quadrant Airbus Edition will be available on 24th September for £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99, or bundled in with the Sidestick in the TCA Officer Pack Airbus Edition for £149.99 / $159.99 / €159.99. The Quadrant Add-Ons will have date and pricing confirmed later this year.
While all of these can be secured to your desk or table with suction cups on their base, you might want to grab a Thrustmaster Flying Clamp to mount it under your desk, also coming on 24th September, but the princely sum of £54.99 / $69.99 / €59.99.
If you’re going all in, all of this can be combined with Thrustmaster’s existing Thrustmaster T.Flight Rudder Pedals (TFRP) and Thrustmaster Pendular Rudder (TPR) for rudder control – and you can then lock the sidestick’s Z-axis twist.
If you’re looking for an authentic feeling set up ahead of the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator later this year, Thrustmaster are building out a full ecosystem to engage with. Dom went hands on with and reviewed the sidestick at the heart of it all:
The TCA Sidestick Airbus Edition is a fantastic mid-range flight stick from Thrustmaster with an approachable price, and makes for a perfect entry point to the flight sim world. Based as it is on the T16000M, you’re getting top-level precision and solid build quality, dressed up in a suitably Airbus-styled colour scheme.
