Here is a bit of a surprise. Vblank Entertainment has announced that Shakedown: Hawaii is going to be released on Wii & Wii U. Do not adjust your clocks, we are still in 2020. These ports of the game will include all of the content released for Shakedown: Hawaii including the Mogul Update and the Full Tank Update, as well as a number of improvements released for the game. Both versions will support the Wii Remote Wii Classic Controller, Wii Classic Controller Pro, and GameCube controller, with the touchpad also supported on the Wii U.
So why these ports and why now? Here’s the explanation:
Like most of my ports, Shakedown: Hawaii on Wii began one Friday night on a whim of curiosity. Perhaps a jolt of Wii nostalgia rushed through me that evening, but I suddenly wondered… how long would it actually take to port? How would it feel to play with a Wii Remote? How would it look in 4:3? Would it hit 60 fps right off the bat, or need optimization? I had many questions, but as soon as I held that Wii Remote and started playing, I knew I wanted to take it to the finish line.
The physical release will be limited with the Wii version limited to 3000 copies, it will release on July 9th, and it will cost $29.99 USD. The Wii U and Steam versions will be released in August but there is no word on the number of how many physical Wii U versions there will be available. Shakedown: Hawaii released last year for PS4, PS Vita, Switch, and 3DS.
